What does it do?

Helps Quiet Coughs Caused by Mucus

When you wake up in the morning, do you right away try to clear a nagging cough, spitting out clear mucus in the process? A cough presenting with clear mucus is known as a productive cough. Usually, when you hear the word “productive” that’s a good thing. But if you have a productive cough, it’s anything but pleasant.

You’re not sick, but, yet, for some reason, you can’t seem to shake the chronic coughing. Is it the rich meals you’ve been eating? Are you a smoker? Are you exposed to lots of pollution?

Perhaps the source of your productive cough is a mystery to you. But according to traditional Chinese medicine theory, there’s a simple reason for it: phlegm.

We need a certain amount of it to lubricate mucous membranes, for instance. But phlegm can be detrimental to your health when it’s produced in excess. And, at the very least, it can be very annoying when you’re having to cough up mucus throughout the day….

Coughsoff is our powerful phlegm-clearing formula, and is an appropriate remedy when one or more of the following other symptoms are present: a feeling of fullness in the chest; occasional nausea, vomiting; and a tongue presenting with white and moist fur as well as a slippery pulse.

Coughsoff Dries Dampness and Transforms Phlegm

The health of your Spleen and digestion might seem unrelated to coughing and frequent need to expectorate mucus. However, according to TCM theory, Spleen is the source of phlegm production. The poorer your Spleen function, the more phlegm gets accumulated in the Lungs. (In TCM theory, the Lungs are phlegm storage houses.) So when you’re coughing, it’s your body’s natural way of getting rid of excess phlegm.

Having a chronic cough can indicate weakness in the digestive system. When your digestion is weak, you’re not able to break down food into usable nutrients as efficiently. Consequently, this causes the accumulation of fluids.

Coughsoff dries dampness, transforms phlegm, regulates Qi and harmonizes the Middle Energizer.

How does Coughsoff Work?

A combination of the two classic formulas, Er Chen Tang and San Zi Yang Qin, Coughsoff enhances the actions of the herbs in the original two formulas.

Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) regulates Qi, strengthens the Spleen, dries dampness and transforms phlegm. Zhi Ban Xia (Prepared Pinellia Tuber), the chief herb in Er Chen Tang, also dries dampness and transforms phlegm, and harmonizes the stomach and arrests vomiting. Fu Ling (Poria Root), another Spleen-strengthening herb also promotes urination and leaches out dampness. Gan Cao (Processed Licorice Root) tonifies the Spleen, harmonizes the stomach and nourishes Qi. Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome) releases the exterior and disperses cold, while also warming the middle and transforming phlegm. Together, these 5 herbs form Er Chen Tang.

The remaining three herbs in Coughsoff form San Zi Yang Qin. Lai Fu Zi (Radish Seeds) reduces food stagnation and eliminates distention while also directing Qi downward and transforming phlegm. Zi Su Zi (Perilla Fruit) also redirects Qi downward and dissolves phlegm. In addition, it stops wheezing and moistens the intestines. The last herb, Bai Jie Zi (White Mustard Seed) warms the lungs, regulates Qi and expels cold-phlegm.
